Nobody spars in week one
The thing that stops most people walking into a fight gym is not the price. It is not knowing when someone starts hitting them back. Here is the whole answer.

Straight answers
- I have never trained. Will I get hurt on day one?
- No. The first three months are fundamentals only — technique, movement and pads. Nobody spars until a coach signs off on it, and that is not negotiable.
- What do I bring?
- Shorts, a t-shirt and water. Gloves, shin guards and a gi are there to borrow while you work out whether you are staying.
- Can women train here?
- Yes, in every class. The morning boxing technique class and the gi classes have the most women in them if you would rather start there.
- Do I have to fight?
- No. Most of the club never competes. Sparring is optional and supervised, and the fight team is something you opt into.
- What age do you take from?
- Sixteen and up in the adult classes. Under-16s train in the kids batch, which runs Saturday mornings and is on the timetable.
